The Ellington Kid - Dan Sully

The Ellington Kid is a short, 5 minute film about two friends discussing the events that took place after a stabbing the previous night. It takes place in a Kebab shop, where a boy seeks refuge after being stabbed, resulting with the the owners of the shop choosing to turn against his stabbers. This film effectively utilizes the three act structure, allowing for an engaging storyline. The first act, the set up, shows a boy getting stabbed, conveyed through the words of Nathan and in a series of flashbacks. We see him escape from the stabbers, running into a local kebab shop for help. This leads to the second act, the confrontation, between first the boy and the owners of the shop, as they decide whether or not to help him, and then secondly between the owners and the stabbers. Then comes the third act, the resolution, where we see the owners take out knives and trap the stabbers in the shop. In the present day, Nathan jokes to his friend that the meat in his burger was made from the bodies of the stabbers, and although he later admits he's joking, the final shot suggests there could be an element of truth within it, allowing for an intriguing open ending.
